- The ASUS A626 perfectly combines versatility and style. This palm-sized marvel matches high quality with an impeccable standard of design and caters to the user's expectations for personal handheld accessories.Exceptionally slim at only 1.57 cm, the ASUS A626 really stands out from most of the other PDAs on the market. The casing is made of stainless steel and the whole PDA is less than 158g in weight. The 3.5" anti-glare touch screen completes the outlook of the A626 and provides the feeling of a solid and high quality luxury accessory. In situations where utilizing a notebook is more hassle than convenience, the A626 can really shine. With its wireless, it can keep the user connected to email, the Internet and corporate networks; while Bluetooth 2.0 with Enhanced Data Rate speeds up data exchange with a huge range of digital peripherals (phones, printers, etc) by up to two to three times over conventional Bluetooth standards. With ASUS's user-friendly application "Remote Presenter", it can also be easily utilized to remotely link and control presentations on a computer via Bluetooth. The most important feature is the fact that all data is stored in Flash memory, so precious information remains saved even if all battery power in the handheld has drained away. The ASUS A626 runs on Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0, and also provides true multimedia entertainment options. With its front-mounted speakers, it plays video and audio formats and has a huge library of games available for the Pocket PC platform. For its size, the A626 is simply the most versatile mobile entertainment gadget. With the combination of powerful applications and an ultra-slim outlook that radiates high quality, the A626 is a PDA of choice for the well-heeled and well-traveled.

- I bought this to have wifi internet access at free hotspots, without any monthly subscriptions. It does all I wanted and way more. In fact, I can't seem to find anything this unit does NOT do. With the addition of freeware software, I can watch full DVD movies, listen to streaming internet radio, watch online videos, process email, surf the web, download stuff, view PDFs, read eBooks, write music, RECORD music, play video games, view pictures, take notes, make actual phone call using SKYPE, annoy coworkers with a synthesized "Theremin", and a bunch of other stuff I can't remember at the moment... other than the beefy horsepower in my desktop, this little thing does nearly everything my big box does - and fits in my shirt pocket!
I have not had wifi speed issues I see mentioned here - yes, the "BARS" are low sometimes, but the wifi works great when you dial it up to 100%. Speed of processor seems fine too. It's a work tool to me, not a video game or CAD manipulator. Yet I play video games on it all the time. Using TCPMP it has NO PROBLEMS playing back full speed, full screen video/movies.
My level is advanced geekness so I have not feared pushing it past it's limits and am always suprised how well it handles everything. It does get "rebooted" every other day or so since it is Windows based and suffers like every other Windows of memory fragmentation, thus needing cleansed. The 16GB mem card I put in it works great.
Great unit - best power per price I could find - I highly recommend it
- was delivered from the vendor in a timely fashion it appears to have inherited some of the traits the xp has does like to crash palm is prob more stable but this unit does interface with the computer where the palm would not play nice with xp 64
- This pocket pc is great. It is a pretty small one and looks great. This pocket runs really fast. Mine has pretty bad wifi range, but I don't know how it would be with a brand new one. (bought mine used) I really recomend this pocket pc to everybody.
- I've owned a few PDA's in my life (like most of you). I was at the point where I bought into the idea that a phone with pda qualities would satisfy my need for constant information management and communication. I was wrong. I realized I just wanted my phone to make and receive calls. Enter the Asus 626. This is a sleek, user friendly device with a killer screen and WM6 standard. I don't use the PDA like I used to, but when I need it, it's there. The bluetooth connects perfectly. Wi-Fi connections are a snap, and I can surf the net in portrait or landscape at the touch of a button. The media player is pretty good, too.
Maybe in a year or two (or when the bugs are worked out on the I-Phone), I will try the smartphone that does everything again. For now, I'm happy with my Asus.
- I adore my ASUS A626. I use the contact list, task list, schedule, and documents daily in my job as a pharmacy technician. When I upgraded from my last PDA, I chose the A626 because it was an affordable Pocket PC, a great alternative to the Palm based PDA. Granted, my favorite games are unplayable now as the Pocket PC and Palm systems don't 'mesh' properly, but I love my A626.
The only downside I can see is the lack of accessories. I have only found one case for this item, and the case isn't that convenient (It has to be opened to write or page down in a document).
My personal pet peeve is I can't 'page down' in word on the handheld. I read documents on my handheld quite a bit, and the only way to 'page down' is to tap the bar on the side of the page. I've gotten too used to pressing the 'down' button on the direction pad of the handheld... But, that is just a pet peeve.
Am I glad I bought it? Yes. Would I buy it again? Definitely.
- Good machine. Needed a replacement for an aging pocket PC. Did not want a phone to infiltrate my pocket PC. It interfaces with my home PC seamlessly and has added functionality my old PPC did not have. With bluetooth and WIFI it is a great little PC. If you want a powerful hand held PC then, this is it.
- I bought the Asus A626 PDA as a gift for my son after having read several positive reviews. He seems to like this PDA very well so far.
- I purchased this item for just storing phone numbers and addresses that I can take with me. But it does so much more. I would recommemd this product to anyone who whats an organizer. It keeps track of your appointments, you can make notes if you need to and so much more. I am very glad that I purchaes this mobile organizer from Asus.
- QUICK and SPEEDY Shipping. GREAT PRODUCT!
- The seller did a GREAT job shipping this product. The product itself is very user friendly and a very nifty tool for its price when compared to PALM or HP.
- I purchased this handy little gaget for my budding business. I looked into Pocket PC phones which are double the cost of this little unit. Plus added monthly fees. I own a Palm pilot and was hoping this would come close to it in performance. Let me just say, I was very impressed. Syncing is a cinch, navigating is great, I don't always have to use the stylus the touch screen reads fingertips very nicely. I enjoy that I can change from portrait to landscape, the Excel mobile is just perfect. I have not tried the wifi/internet yet as what I purchased it for isn't necessary to access the internet. This thing is 20 times better than my old Palm Pilot. It comes with a case, very nice. 2 stylus. I love the hold key to lock the buttons as I carry this in my purse. I compared it to the HPIpaq and I feel they are very similar but this one was the better choice for me as it was a bit cheaper but still had the power I wanted. It has a SD card slot and if you have a card reader (my laptop has one), loading your data directly onto the card makes syncing not necessary all the time. I was suprised it didn't come with a cradle like my Palm Pilot. However, I'm glad it doesn't have one, I can say I hate those things, I much perfer a cable. This little guy will also charge when plugged into your laptop (like an Ipod). Mine came with Windows Mobile 6.0. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for this power but doesn't want a Pocket PC phone and all it's expense and monthly outrageous fees.

- I had a Palm TX for 2 years, and loved it. But it died. The only additional functionality I wanted in a newer device was ability to play the Windows Media format, since most radio stations will only stream in that format. Unfortunately I bought, and had to return, the Asus A626. It ran extremely slow. I've seen other Windows Mobile devices in the store that run fast enough. But not this dog. Worst of all, it wouldn't play a WMA stream from a major radio station (CKLW), nor would it play any Shoutcast streams. I just bought a new Palm TX.
- The device wouldn't boot. When I pugged it to charge, the charge light was green.
Pushing the power button or any front panel button caused the blue back-lights to flash and the device remained dark.
A soft reset brought the device to the green Windows splash screen, then the device would go dark.
It never would stay on to try to synchronize.
I received it this Friday and have an RMA to drop it off with UPS on Monday.
Support from Asus is rediculous.
- Worked great for about two weeks. The next two weeks began losing data when synchronizing. Then the screen went black. It still synchronizes, but with a black screen it is totally useless. I am lost without my PDA, but the next one won't be an Asus.
- Great unit but compatiblity issue kills its name.
- The ASUS MyPal A626 is one of the best Pocket PCs I have ever seen.
But unfortunately, neither Amazon.com's description nor the manufacturer's note did not explain that it doesn't work with Vista computers very well.
Although there is no problem recognizing the device and interact by putting files around, when it comes to synchronizing with Microsoft Outlook 2007, it does nothing.
Windows Mobile Device Center tells me that it has been synchronized, but I find no difference on the unit.
If someone knows a solution to this, I would greatly appreciate if you could contact me via Amazon.com
- Worked OK until it didn't work
- Purchased in mid September and worked OK for a couple of weeks. Still didn't like the fact that it won't recognize sub-folders in Outlook - so if you want all your contacts on the PDA, you have to copy them all into your main "Contacts" folder on main computer.
After two or three weeks, the screen went blank. If I removed the battery and reinstalled it, I would see the splash screen, but once the product was "on" the screen went black. I could snyc from main computer, just couldn't see anything on the screen of the PDA!
I e-mailed ASUS, the manufacturer. They responded a few days later telling me it couldn't be handled by e-mail and to call a number. I called the number and got a recording that said, "We are sorry we couldn't take your call personally. Please leave a number and we'll call you back." I left a message and my number. Never heard from them.
I e-mailed the Seller at the address provided by Amazon. Business apparently goes by both TheFactoryDepot and/or Bright Lights Business. A couple days later I got an e-mail that said, "Will e-mail you tomorrow with instructions on how to get a replacement from ASUS." Two days later, a message was left on my answering machine telling me to call TheFactoryDepot to resolve the problem. I called the number they left on two separate occasions. Both times got a message that said, "This mailbox is full."
I finally contacted Amazon directly, and they have initiated a refund under their A-Z Guarantee, which is truly a lifesaver. The product might be good, and it's entirely conceivable that I just got a bad one. But the complete lack of customer support from both ASUS and TheFactoryDepot/Bright Lights Business makes the product worthless in my opinion.
But hat's off to Amazon - their customer support is top rate!
- cheap hardware does come with a price
- I wish I can say this is a great bargin but it requires more attention on software support, I wouldn't bet on low price for great software support.

- Asus A626 3.5" PDA Love it
- Preformed much better than expected. I was able to find lots of free software. Skip the windows media player and install TCPMP instead, plays well and did'nt have to convert most of video I already had.Only complaint is battery life. That would be more tolerable if I could pick up additional batteries and had a way to charge them. Might even buy one for my daughter now the price is $30.00 cheaper. Amazon overnight shipping was really overnight, I had it in less than 24 hours.

- It does everything I expected, often better than expected. It came with Mobile 6 preinstalled, but that's a mixed blessing. The only annoyance, and it's a slight annoyance, was needing Outlook 2007 for complete synch'ing. I still prefer Office 2003 to Office 2007 - and WinXP to Win Vista.
I have not been pleased with HP PDAs, as they don't last long. I'm hoping to have better luck with Asus.
- Delivered updated to WM 6.0
- This product is fine quality, but it came already updated to WM 6.0. I needed a device running WM 5.0 so the automatic upgrade did not serve my purposes. If this matters to you you should check it out.
- I don't know a lot about PDAs, pocket pcs, iphones, whatever.
But I do know that this one is pretty good at what it does... it works. It starts up immediately, shuts off immediately, recognizes your handwriting impressively well. It runs programs quickly and effortlessy. I've read a lot of other good reviews on it as well, but I don't know enough to compare it to other handhelds.
My only minus is the picture/video quality. Compared to iphones and itouches, it's definitely below the bar.
Buy this if you want something good for work or school.
Buy an iphone/itouch if you want entertainment.
- What you would expect from a Windows based device
- After about 7 years of using 2 Palm based PDAs I had to buy a new PDA because my Z22 broke. It had been easy to use but not as reliable as I liked, and hadn't lasted as long as I would expect. The reviews on the Palm devices in general indicated that this was a problem, so I decided to experiment and ended up with the Asus 626 running Windows Mobile.
Well, it's pretty much what I should have expected. In theory it's more flexible, it has more capabilities, but any specific thing I do is harder to get done. Physically it's bigger and heavier. Simply taking the stylus out is a pain, because it's in an odd spot and is folded up.
The software is buggy in very obvious ways. The "Today" home screen that gives you a summary of appointments, tasks, etc doesn't update when you add an appointment or task, so the display is incorrect. There are obvious graphical glitches where parts of the screen don't get redrawn, so part of the screen sometimes displays a chunk of another program.
Carrying out operations is more painful and seems to involve more traversal of menus. For example, editing a calendar item on the Palm required a simple tap. On the Asus, I have to tap, bring up a menu, and hit edit. A lot of these are probably things that people would accept if they haven't used a Palm, but having used one, it's annoying.
The connection between the PC and the Asus requires some jiggling to get the PC to recognize the Asus. I have to do a variety of plugging, unplugging, and switching the Asus off and on to get things to work. And the ActiveSync program keeps switching off using the USB connection, so I have to periodically go into its settings and switch that back on again.
I'm sure that the Asus is a more powerful device and that over time I'll find use for that power, but basically if what you are looking for is a PDA so you can easily do the basics of calendar, notes, shopping lists, etc, you want to stick to the Palm.
