- Pros and cons, but its very recommended
- This is a great purchase. Is easy to install programs although usually is not easy to find one compatible with windows mobile 5. The reproduction of videos and images is wonderful, it doesn't bring acrobat reader but you can install it. About word i have used it a lot, with an external keyboard that connects with an infrated port, and it works perfect, have all the basic functions and is easy to read (without making an eye effort). Some of the problems are that you cannot open two different word files at the same time, ad if you're going to open a huge word document (a book, for example) it usually stocks and you have to reiniciate windows. To connect it to a computer you must have the connector (obviusly) which is a little big, and the program of sincronization installed, so you cant just arrive to a place to connect it and download information, is not that easy. Is really light to carry, the battery lasts very long time, it have all the aplications you could need of an electronic helper for everyday: calculator, clock, alarm, word, notes (by entering text with the buttons or by just drawing in the screen), power point viewer (so you can check out that important presentation on the way), contacts list, space for an external SD card, etc. Also the bluetooth and the wi-fi connection are great. I recommend it very very much.
- HP iPAQ hx2495b Pocket PC
- Great product. Works well with Windows Vista. Have used Palm products for years....this is superior in almost every way.
- Much more than I ever imagned
- I absolutely love this pocket pc. I switched from a Palm Z22 - this is so much nicer. I am still reviewing all the features. Great buy for the price
- Order entry was simple; delivery was on time; product delivered was as ordered and complete. This is replacement for older-style hp pocket pc circa 2000. Smaller unit is easier to handle. The older iPAQ stylus with pop-up release was easier to use, but the spring failed during it's lifetime which caused the stylus to get loose in pockets and luggage. Used for data transfer from field equipment to laptop - satisfactory.
- Bought this for my husband; his first handheld. Took it on vacation first thing and was impressed how easy it was to use. Came in very handy and he has yet to learn all the things it can do. He has used it for personal and business and found the windows mobile a real asset. Found that buying a case for it was a good idea for both travel and general protection. Bought this item because my father has one and recommended it. He says he couldn't do without it anymore. He even takes it to church as he has downloaded the Bible on it. So far, I'd have to say this has been a great investment.
- Brilliant. What can i say? This is my first PDA and i am very happy with it. Does as it says on the tin!!!
- I used to have another pocketPC from other manufacturer...yes that one that discontinued the product, anyway, this resulted in a better product overall, even thought it has the same specs as the other one it performs much better, especially in the configuration because it was really easy to make it connect to the internet using my cell with bluetooth, also the bluetooth headphones that I have and the keyboard and bluetooth mouse. It's a great device for mobility when you don't want or you can't carry a laptop.
- I bought the product for my wife who is an elementary teacher. I wanted to give her a gift that would cut down her at home grading. Now she can walk around the room entering grades in real-time using the HP and included Micro Soft Software. The Excel format from the HP seamlessly uploads to her grading software. I bought her a SD card that aids in the transfer of information to and from the HP. No funky Synchronization issues to deal with. I have used a Palm and never found it to be better than a simple back up.
Now all she needs to do is upload the grades into the system. Parents can see their child's progress and more importantly, no entering grades at home.
Happy wife, Happy life.
- I got this product and I very satisfied, the programs run pretty well and the connection with the internet is very good too.
- It works great I haven't had any issues with it! The software package is perfect, it's like having an office in your pocket.

- I thought this was a great unit until I inserted the SD card and it never was the same.
Check the hp forum. In spite of the workarounds once you insert the card your nifty little PDA is junk.
The battery life was great for months - I was pleasantly surprised. It was a wonderful unit. After deciding it would be useful tool and began loading schedules and plugged the card in, things got ugly. At this time my battery discharge rate is about 1% per 5-7 minutes. None of the workarounds or service pack fixes does squat to alleviate the problem. I'm really upset because hp will not touch it - I just got past the warranty a couple of months ago and now I have to pay to fix their junk.
Caution - do not use any SD cards in this PDA.
- pros: beautiful screen
cons: This is one querky machine. As some other users have found, the unit turned itself on a few times and ran the batteries down. I once couldn't turn it on without a soft reset. The keyboard that worked great with my old HP2215 functioned with the newer OS, but I had to touch the screen with the stylus every 5 min (maximum length allowed) to re-activate it. But the worst defect was that the screen turned itself on every time a new song started in wm player. Even though the standard battery in the 2495 is huge, it didn't last longer than the small one in the 2215. The extended battery is even larger and necessitates a new back for the iPAQ. Other issues: stereo output stopped if the plug on my headset was turned slightly (but the handset worked elsewhere). The plastic flip cover isn't as secure as a third-party metal case, and shows smudges when the screen is on. I could go on and on with smaller issues. Even though my 2215 can't access the SD card anymore, I've returned the 2495. When it finally gives up the ghost, I'll probably get a smart phone.
- Never been able to sync with computer, battery consistently deteriorated and now, 12 months after I bought it and despite the minimal use (as it does not connect with PC its use is very limited), battery has now completely died and can only use it when connected to AC.
HP assistance is useless - suggested to assist me purchase a new one - right, not in a million years.
Not impressed by product or by HP. Had a Dell before which worked flawlessly for years. Decided to 'upgrade' to HP. I wish Dell were still making their Pocket PCs to replace this useless and expensive device.
- the alarms don't pay any attention to the settings in sounds and notifications. they repeat twice and then quit. the light doesn't flash except the first time. half of the time they don't work. i sent it back for repair and they didn't do a thing to it but send it back to me the next day. same problem, it is the way it is designed but they won't admit it.
- Featured function didn't work
- 1. Spec says that it supports SD memory card. After inserting 2 GB Card, the battery drains & I was not able to use the unit even once.
2. After calling the tech support, I was asked to download a patch eventhough my unit was brand new. Even after downloading the patch & installing it, the problem persisted.
3. I couldn't use it even once right from Day 1.
- Bought this to replace my old 2200 Ipaq; Man what a mistake! The battery is always dead, even after the HP tech support for hours on 3 seperate occasions; Patch downloads done nothing, lost information, reloads, Bugs to many to mention. I wished someone would have warned me of this pda model before I purchased it. All the good features it has don't hold a candle to all the troubles it has. I'd be very careful if your looking to buy this model. Dan
- I went to fund raiser for a Non profit organization that we like to support. Saw this at their silent auction, bought it. It was new in the box thought it would be good for helping me organize. Right from the start it would not drop the align screen page. Called HP, they suggested a clean reset, didn't work. Now I have to send it in for a $49.00 service fee, what a joke. Take my advice look elsewhere and don't buy an electronic item new in the box from a silent auction.
- Brand new this did not synchronize from the start. Sent it back to HP they said it would be $300 to repair it as the main board was flawed. I said "but it's under a 1 year warrenty. Well be sure to read it, it's doesn't cover the main board. HP was horrible to deal with, never would return calls and kept it for over three months and did nothing. So once I got it back I went to bluetooth to synchronize and it worked great, but you can't move music, so what good is this? I love it's possiblities but it just has too many bugs!

- Not really ready for Prime Time
- Purchased this PDA about 2 years ago, since thing it's been love hate relationship. To start off the SD card would drain all the power from the battery when left in the unit and the unit in the off position. HP provided an update about 6 months into my owning the device (kinda) and that problem appears to be resolved. The unit will not shut off by itself if an calendar alarm turns it on - that kills the battery too. The Windows Mobile OS is full of bugs - the unit won't come on sometimes, it requires a lot of resets and programs that appear to be closed are not "really" closed. You have to go in and make sure they're closed to conserve memory space. The WiFi works sometimes - I have a WPA enabled access point which gives the device problems. I just decided it just wasn't worth the trouble of using it for wireless access. All in all it was a good try by HP but they missed an opportunity to hit a home run. This is my 4th PDA and I won't be buying another one from HP.

- my new ipaq performs well although I did have trouble syncing Microsoft Outlook Contacts. I went to Microsoft help and they referred me to HP help and I received the information needed to solve the syncing problem, that is syncing not sinking.

- I needed this product as an organizer plus storage of some books on its SD card. The only problem I found was it is not supporting no more than 2GB memory card. Other than this I felt it serves my purpose.
