- A Fun Diversion Not for Fanatics
- I read the negative reviews for this game and still bought it. I LOVE
it! Now, I'm not a video gamer...this one of a "very few" I've played...
I love sports, but I like something easy to play and don't care about too much realism or rules. I like a game you ccan play right out of the package. This one fits the bill. Fanatics beware....It's probably not
as detailed as Madden or other formats...so what, I like it!
- This is definitely not EA Sports' best game. The first game I started, I saw the cartoon referee and thought, "Oh, no. This is gonna be a cartoon game." I thought it wouldn't be like a REAL EA Sports game, and in some ways it isn't. The one rule I have about Wii games is NEVER EXPECT ANYTHING. If you expect that this will be exactly like previous NCAA Football games, then you'll hate it. If you expect it to be just a football game, then you will not be disappointed. I haven't played one of these games since NCAA Football 2000, so I had no expectations besides it being a college football game.
On to the game: I have to agree with other reviewers that the graphics aren't awesome, but, at least to me, that's absolutely fine. They're good enough to make it look like a modern-era game (i.e. 21st century) so they aren't that distracting. I think that EA needs to move away from the "everyone can play video games" motto and move toward creating a good, practical game. The advanced controls aren't even advanced! To snap the ball, act like you're snapping the ball with the Wii Remote. To throw, hold the correct button and make a throwing motion. If these are advanced, I'd cringe at the "All-Play" controls.
Overall, this is an awesome game if you just want a football Wii game (which come few and far between). If yo're a hardcore EA gamer, you'd be better off getting a different game. This is incredibly fun once you let go of expectations. The only complaint is that they have you "celebrate" by waving the Wii remote and that gets very tedious very quickly. Otherwise, this game would've gotten a 5-star rating. This is one of the best football games I've played.
- Don't give up on this one.
- If I would have trusted my first impressions of this game I would have stopped playing after the first game, but over time it has grown on me. This is certainly not the best EA football game out there, and I would agree that any of the NCAA games for the GameCube are fundamentally better, but NCAA 09 has its place. Once I figured out how to change the camera views I became much more satisfied with the game. The controls were easy to learn and being able to adjust the AI made the learning curve fun. I was disappointed to find out that the voice clips from the announcers were not any different from the previous NCAA versions, but I purchased and play the game for the interactive nature of the Wii controls. Those who have problems with the game should be looking to the Xbox or PS3 for satisfaction. Games for the Wii are for interacting and having fun, not for spending 100 hours to complete a game or mind-bending graphics.
- Game is fun, I wish they had the mini games that the other NCAA's have for training. Also, during game play the score board blocks upfield vision. For some reason about 1/3rd of the time I will try and pass to one reciver and it goes to a totally differet one.
- This game is great for someone who is new to football games. It is a very stripped down basic football game. It is easy for anyone to pick up and play which is what the designer was hoping for, however in making the game easy for anyone to play they have neglected the hardcore gamer or veteran video game football fan. (No online play)
In a very anticipated return to nintendo, many people were looking forward to playing NCAA again. however, I think those people may be disappointed as this game is very lacking in all the in depth aspects from the previous versions. If you just like to play football and are not worried about having all the options and in depth features then this game is for you. If you are used to playing madden with all the options and features then wait for the new madden which I hope does not disappoint.
Hopefully in future versions EA will be able to make the same game across the 3 consoles and include the all-play as well. EA stopped making NCAA on Nintendo consoles because it didn't sell well. This game is not going to help that and I hope they don't scrap future NCAA projects.
- Obviously, if you look at the other reviews, long-time players are not going to be too happy with this game. This is my first college football game since the very first Nintendo console, so I can't complain the same way. The comments about the graphics are true, but that's not necessarily a primary reason why I bought this game so I'm fine. Still, it's true you can't really distinguish players, do more than go out on the field and play, and the audience does look more like consoles from ten years ago when you know a console of today could do better.
I have been playing Dynasty mode, but I'm not finished with my season yet so I don't know if you actually get to play bowl games. So far, my issues with the game--and I don't know if some of these are consistent with all releases or what--are as follows: first, I agree that there should be more of a personal touch with this game. None of the players on your team are named, and none of them have faces. I expected an actual roster and actual pics of players since other EA sports on the Wii have this (i.e. NBA Basketball). The main reason I bought this game, other than missing college football in its offseason, was to play with my team (Michigan Wolverines), its players from this past season with stats close to theirs, and to create a dream season for them, i.e. basically to get as close to the real college football experience as possible. This game doesn't really allow for that.
Second, the game is very simplistic, as others have mentioned. This is good and bad. If you're not used to video games or are the kind who wants to dive right in and play, the simplicity allows for that. But after a while the options get old, and sometimes it feels like there's not much about the game that you're actually controlling.
Third, as mentioned about the game/teams approximating a team's actual strengths/weaknesses/stats, it's as if every team challenges (or doesn't challenge) my team just the same. I can easily put up 80-115 points on each and every team, whether it's Florida, USC, Ohio State, or Middle Tennessee, Stanford, Minnesota. In Dynasty mode, which basically means you're mimicking a college football season, the rankings of the teams will be close to what you expect, but all of those teams play you at the same level of difficulty. Rivalry games aren't any more intense than any other as far as the audience or the game play. I, personally, would love it if beating a difficult team had more to do with my skill with playing the game, not the ease of using the remote/features and the one-note play of every team. I suspect this complaint is not unique to this game, though.
Fourth, the commentary is the same in every game. No reference to your performance in earlier games in the season, rankings, and references to the difficulty/reputation of a team are generic. This is also probably common among sports games, I'd guess. But especially combined with the other aforementioned issues that make this game impersonal and unlike the real thing, I don't know why it's called "NCAA Football"--the only things related to NCAA football are the school names, info about the schools and approximation of rankings.
All that said, I still have a good time playing the game and seeing it generate mock ESPN Magazine headlines, rankings, Heisman candidates and such in Dynasty Mode. I never bother with Mascot games, especially since my team shouldn't have a mascot on the game (the Michigan Wolverines don't have a mascot, so I doubt there's one on the game). Still, EA definitely could have done better. It seems almost like a relatively lazy effort put into it, particurlarly on the technical side.

- Worst Football Game Ever!
- I have been playing various versions of the EA Football games for it seems like ever and this is by far the worst game I have ever played. The controls are horrible, the game play stinks, and the rest, wow!
This game has nothing to it. 10 years of simulation? Huh. No game has less than 25 years. No create anything? Wow, again, it is part of the fun.
Take your money and buy something else, not this.
- EA truly treating Wii as a joke
- Quick cash, little effort, thinks EA.
With all of the Wii users in the US, they figure to make some quick cash, and it shows. The graphics are a joke and the gameplay is sloppy. Lots of bugs.
It targets parents and young kids who have never played a video game in their life, so they wouldn't know what a good product is.
- i've played NCAA for years it's my favorite game. But the control play on this version is absolutely terrible. They could have made the Gamecube controller campatible then it would be alrjght. Using the Wii controller sucks I played it twice and returned to last years version on PS2. Worst game because of controller i've ever played. worst money I;ve spent in some time. Will not play it
- Not Like the other NCAA games
- This game is not anywhere near what the previous (and current for XBox and PS) NCAA Football games are. It is dumbed down so that it complies with the Wii's "Everyone can Play" philosiphy. I understand what they were going for, but I think that they are going to lose more fans than they gain with the All Play games. This would be a fine game had they put a differnt name on it.
- Please tell me this is not the best you can do! Never before have I seen a NCAA game that stunk so bad. No historical games, terrible graphics, play selection slightly better than the tecmo era.
EA if you can't do better than this, please don't bother making a game next year. Instead of creating this manure, you should have stuck with systems that you cared to try with. If you do this again, I know of quite a few people who won't be giving you money in the future.
- The Most Disappointed I Have I Ever Been Ever
- I have been looking forward for a long time for the Wii to release NCAA football a game I buy every year. I bring it home and I put it in and then my worst nightmare appears. Am I playing my old original Playstation?!?!? I mean honestly you cant tell me they could not do better then that. My favorite teams stadium does not look even close to what it really looks like I mean come on EA Sports you let us all down! Please take my word for it do not waste your money on this game if you have to see what its like for yourself go rent the game and you will see what I mean. There are so many things you can not do on this game the you could do on older systems. And please EA Sports change up what the announcers say it has been the same for several years IT SHOULD CHANGE EVERY YEAR! Thank you for you time! DO NOT GET THIS TERRIBLE GAME!!!!
- Never have been more disappointed
- This has been the most disappointing game that I have ever played. I use to love this series on Playstation 2 and Xbox and was really excited when I saw that it was coming out for the Wii, but the graphics suck (even for a Wii), gameplay is not that realistic, and I could not figure out for anything how to make line shifts or audibles. There also is no way to see your play before the snap which sucks. I can't figure out why in the world that EA did not use the same approach that they had used with Madden 08 which was awesome. If I could I would not give this game any stars.
- WARNING: RENT FIRST BEFORE BUYING!!!!!
- Wow. What can I say about this game? It's basically exactly the same as NCAA Football 2005 that I have for Gamecube. Right down to the two man commentary word-for-word. Except, the Gamecube version is actually better. This doesn't even have a create school/player option. The graphics are really basic. It doesn't show anything on the sidelines (players/coaches/fans). It doesn't even show the fans in the stands, like the Gamecube game did. The only other difference is using the Wii remote for gameplay, which is really tedious, and almost too easy. Simply flick/shake remote to pass/rush/catch etc... Yawn. No thanks.
Do yourself a favor and spend the 10-20 bucks on the Gamecube version instead.NCAA Football 2005
I really dodged a bullet with this one. I'm glad I rented it first.
- Terrible Graphics - Not Worth Your Money!
- I have been looking forward to buying this game for a long time and was very excited when it arrived today. As soon as I got it I started playing it and was dissappointed as soon as I started.
First of all, the graphics in this game are terrible! I also own the 2004 edition of NCAA football and I can not tell a difference between the graphics in both games. The players are pretty much the same and the crowd is completely flat. The graphics have not improved any!
Secondly, the game is very kiddish. It does not look or feel like a real game at all. It also reads out what happens at the bottom of the screen. For example, if your player tackles someone, it will bring up a small chalkboard that says "tackle" on the bottom.
Another bad thing about the game is that none of the players names are there, just their number. This makes it difficult to know which player you are using.
All of these problems add up to a terrible game and a waste of money! I just got the game today and I am already trying to get rid of it!
- Biggest Disappointment in EA History!
- This is about as bad of game as EA could put out. In fact, I liked NCAA 2003 for the Gamecube so much more, I am thinking of taking this back to trade in now. The graphics are worse than the Gamecube. The passing can be sparatic. The fields for some of the largest schools in the nation are not rendered correctly. The game is just horrible. Please whatever you do...DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!! EA Should yank this game off the shelf, fire everyone involved, and issue an immediate swap for all customers who purchased this game.

- I bought this game cause everybody in the office are college football fans. I dont care much about the grapics. What is with it not reading your actions? The game often will throw to the wrong person. Whats with not being able to get yards on the ground? Im sticking with my PSP for this game.
- Unfortunately, the controls stink... As others have hit on, the graphics are awful. To give an example - all helmets have the numbers on the helmets, even if they don't in real life. When the camera zooms in, you can see the outline of the number, even though the interior of its ever so faintly camouflaged the same color as the rest of the helmet. The graphics aren't even on par with PS2's 2003 version. No support for the classic controller or GC controller.
