- The follow-up to Trauma Center - Under the Knife, this is the first surgical video game for the Nintendo Wii. Sure, we've all imagined what it would be like to become a doctor. Years of medical school, residency, and clinic duty eventually pay off in a rewarding position saving people's lives. Or, you could skip all that and just put in a few hours after dinner.
The critically acclaimed medical drama simulation is making a house call on your Wii! Dr. Derek Stiles is back, but he's not the only surgeon on call?a new player joins the team, bringing along everything the doctor ordered: difficulty modes, new surgical implements like the defibrillator, and an exciting never-before-seen conclusion. So what are you waiting for? If one dose of Trauma Center wasn't enough, it's time you got a Second Opinion!

- This is one of the best games I have played in a long time. I am a medical worker and it is close to home ... even with the cheesy settings and dialogue. It tests your skills and your memory and is just a blast! I recommend it to everyone!
- great game, but a version for girls would be better
- Both this game and Zelda are too male specific - the gender identifications are wrong for girls. I would like to see versions with female heroes for my nieces.
- This game was really challenging and the surgery is fun. Obviously it's completely unrealistic, but that doesn't mean it's bad. It was more fun operating on fake diseases because of the difficulty involved. Once you get the hang of it and beat the game, you can still play it on the different easy, medium, and hard levels. Plus it unlocks extra surgeries for you. I liked this game on the Nintendo DS and the Wii format is perfect for "Trauma Center." Now if we can only get "Ace Attorney" on here...
- First off, this game is fun. It's addictive. It's challenging but not so hard that you want to give up. The story lines are entertaining, the game play is great. This is my first game for the Wii besides Sports and Play, and I can't get enough.
- this game is so fun i never want to stop playing it.
keeps you interested with the many challenges and the unique characteristics of the game. Would recomend this to anyone who enjoys quick thinking games.
only problem i have is that there is a lot of subtitle conversations that you cannot skip and are very cheesy and boring but it doesnt take away from the game.
- I got the Wii sometime in late January and this was one of the first games I bought. What my two cents? One word. INCREDIBLE!
Okay, so most of the operations are not realistic, but who cares? In this game, you play Dr. Derek Stiles and Dr. Nozomi Weaver(Naomi Kimishima). The story takes place in the year 2018. Dr. Stiles is an inexperienced surgeon who starts at Hope Hospital that you can make the best surgeon in the world if you complete all the missions. He has an assistant name Angie Thompson. Dr. Weaver is a surgeon who works at St. Francis Hospital. She originally was a surgeon in Japan, but she was stripped of her license. In this game, you have to mostly operate on a fictional disease called Guilt.
There are 7 types.
Kyriaki- Little bats(the animal) that create lacerations internally. Comes in mature and immature versions.
Deftera- Mobile tumors that look a lot like fantail goldfish.
Triti- Multiple membranes with thorns holding them down.
Tetari-Little creatures that make poisonous abcesses.
Pempti- a gelantinous fluid that affects the lungs.
Paraskevi- a fibrous worm that can burrow into organs.
Savato- a spider that makes webs around the heart to steal its energy.
Well, this is the end of my review. Basically, this is probably the best game ever. Buy this game!
- Trauma Center: Second Opinion
- Great game. Wish I could get certified as a surgeon ha ha.
- A strange but very cool kind of fun
- Got to hand it to Nintendo. A lot of their announcements on new gameplay and innovations seemed mainly designed because that's what gamers want without us actually saying anything. Did we really mention we were getting bored of the traditional control scheme and that we "needed" this new style? Or that Gamecube/GBA-connectivity was the better innovation over online play? But the big buzz about the Wii is that even non-gamers are starting to pick it up and play. Where does Trauma Center fall? It's more or less the next step for Wii newbies ("Wii-bies"?) If Sports or any of the other launch titles were too simple, this one's the way to go but be forewarned: this game can easily hand you your ***.
Story: You play Derek Stiles, a medical doctor who's completed his residency. It's 2018 and many diseases including AIDS and cancer has been wiped but a new threat emerges named GUILT and the story continues from there. It's actually a neat story even if it is kind of silly and quite out there but it's also quite interesting in the end.
Graphics: It's actually quite detailed. Granted it's nowhere near stuff like Gears of War or upcoming PS3 titles like Metal Gear Solid 4 but it gets the job done. In-game cutscenes consist of plain backgrounds with anime stills of the characters. The in-game graphics are also quite easy to understand and in a game where you got to do multiple stuff you don't want to be hung up over incredibly tiny play areas. By the way, it's a gory game if you actually imagine the procedure in reality but when a stomach consists of a purple and pink surface, it's kind of hard to get grossed out.
Sound/Music: I was so engrossed in the saving of patient's lives that I didn't even notice the music but it does its job well, if in slightly melodramatic fashion. Voice acting is mainly just sound clips such as "what the?"! or "I will save this patient!"
Gameplay: The bulk of your work is with the remote but the nunchuk is crucial as well. Essentially on the nunchuk, your analog acts as a tool selector as you point to whatever you need from sutures, draining, scalpel or disinfectant. On the remote you have to draw/point to take care of what the patient ails from. An example is if you needed to take a tumor out: use ultrasound to locate it, scalpel to cut it open, drain excess fluid, cut it out, use tweezers to put it in a bowl, put a small cloth over the wound and cover it with disinfectant. And that's in one of the early stages too since it'll get much tougher.
Speaking of tough, Trauma Center was one of those DS games that people loved when they can actually beat it since it had quite unforgiving and kind of sporadic difficulty. Sometimes it got easy, other times will make you see the mission restart screen over and over. Now unlike some games where enemies are too cheap and way more powerful than you (Metroid Prime 2) or just way too enemies, the replaying is actually your fault: you're simply not fast enough. Now the time limit and the enormous amount of tasks is daunting but this isn't like beating 20 enemies with only 7 handgun bullets (like let's say, Resident Evil 4? especially if that chainsaw freak showed up) but after practice, pretty soon you'll be your own ER co-star and heal patients like quick.
Like many have said, this is probably the Wii's best launch title to get after Zelda: Twilight Princess. The difficulty might put off some but since there's always a hunger to beat it anyway, you get over it.
- I found this game surprisingly enjoyable, despite my first impressions based on the title, the missions are fun, and not nearly as gore filled as one might expect. There is an interesting story line and the game is just plain fun.
- I BOUGHT THIS FOR MY SON AND HE SAID HE LIKES IT SO I WOULD BUY IT AGAIN.
HIS WIFE IS A NURSE SO IT MAY BE SOMETHING THAT THEY CAN REALLY GET INTO TOGETHER. SHE'S NOT AS CRAZY OVER GAMES AS HE IS SO THIS MAY BE ONE THAT INTEREST HER AS WELL.

- TOO MUCH READING/ACONTROL DIFFICULT
- My husband is a physican so I thought he would like this game. There is just too much talking and reading! When you finally get to surgery, the controls are too sensitive especially when it comes to handling the forceps. At one point, when we finally figured out how to handle the controls, time was up and the surgery failed. I think with a little redesign, this game would be fun.
- I have a medical background, so I was excited when I saw the game. However, after 5 minutes of reading dialog about the history of the hospital and 5 minutes of reading what the nurse thought, the actual first surgery was a let down. It was difficult to use the remotes for this game and the forceps did not work well to remove glass from the wound. The style was Japanese anime with lots of reading dialog (no talking). The surgeries were lame. There are much better medical games for the PC.
- The surgery parts of this game are fun, albeit really cheesy at times. I wanna perform real situational surgeries, not terrorist bugs things in the patient's body...The storyline in between operations is especially cheesy and annoying. I ended up just punching the button a million times to fly through it and get to the next operation. And during surgery, the obnoxious nurse talks your ear off, frequently interrupting mid-procedure to talk about it. You get a good flow going and she stops you to talk for a few moments. Not to mention, if the stats fall too low, she says there's a problem when it's too late. They die immediately after she says it. Good nurse...waiting so long to say anything. Overall, I'm glad I just borrowed it, and didn't waste money on it. The surgeries are relatively fun but the stories, the music, and constant interruptions are too annoying to make this game enjoyable.
- What do you people like about this game?!
- The story line is stupid and even when you skip through it, it takes FOREVER.
I thought you'd be doing open heart surgeries and such but it quickly becomes you shooting alien viruses with a laser. You even have to disarm a bomb in one episode.
Don't waste your time.
- I am so glad we rented this instead of purchasing it. Over 90% of the time spent on this game is used to follow a soap-opera like storyline. This is beyond annoying. Very little time is spent actually operating. Except for one of the first few scenes, you don't really operate on a person with a real disease. Everyone seems to come down with this mysterious affliction of GUILT. Then you chase little bee- or fish-looking things around inside the patient with the hopes of eradicating their GUILT-induced disease. How STUPID! Save your money folks.
- After all the glowing reviews, couldn't wait to try this one. Bought it, played it once & sold it. The graphics are stilted anime, the text dialogue is completely inane, attempting to select tools from the circular grid is frustrating, navigating the menu is tedious-especially since you have to do it over & over when trying not to kill the same patient for the nth time plus each redo means fast-forwarding through the dialogue. On the up-side, none of this seems to faze most people posting here, so there was no problem selling it. If your local video store stocks Wii titles (ours only has 5 so far & this isn't one of them), take this puppy for a test drive before investing...apparently you're either gonna LOVE it or HATE it!!
- I hate this game, I can not believe I wasted my money on it. The story line is stupid, the quality is even worse.
- boring unless you like to read
- More reading then anything, game was accurate. If you need to cut or stitch didnt matter how straight it was. Got prefects when I hurried or went slow, no difference. Not recommended
- Trauma Center Second Opinior/Wii
- This game is very fun, until about when you get 8% of the way done, you have to draw a star on the patients chest to slow down time and they say its a magical tuch. It is so retarded I just stoped playing, it is hard to draw the star, and by the time you do you are almost out of time.
It would be a great game but they had to screw it up and waste my money.
- We didn't buy this game, but rented it. I suggest doing that first before buying. It's very odd. The thing that bothered me the most was all of the talking that goes on. It's a bit tiresome. I guess it is a good use of the Wii features, but I wouldn't buy it.

- Trauma Center Second Opinion
- I'm very satisfied with this product and the company that delivered it. The game arrived on time and in great condition. The only thing i was upset about is that I thought this was an entirely new story, but in fact it's the DS game with a side story.
- boring unless you like to read
- More reading then anything, game was accurate. If you need to cut or stitch didnt matter how straight it was. Got prefects when I hurried or went slow, no difference. Not recommended
- Loads of fun, but there's a steep difficulty curve.
- This is one of those excellent, fresh games that there needs to be more of. It uses a really good, fairly new concept, and executes it perfectly. This game does suffer from some insane difficulty, along with a few other quirks, and may not be for everyone.
The graphics aren't exactly stellar. It's essentially hand-drawn manga style art for everything but the surgery itself. During the actual surgeries the graphics are on par with a bad PS2 game graphically. All the menus and such are set up to look very clean and easy to navigate. I find the art to be appealing and pleasing to the eye, and the graphics could use a lot of work but still works, and that's what really matters for a game like this that centers around game-play so much.
The sound work is pretty average. The soundtrack is your typical fast paced, erratic Japanese game soundtrack, nothing stellar but it doesn't detract from the experience either. It speeds up during the more intense parts of the game, which is nice for building the tension/suspense. There isn't really any voice work other than a few quotes. They really could have made the story flow better if they had implemented full voice acting rather than just have you reading text.
The game-play is where this game excels. The Wii-mote and the concept of video game surgery were made for each other, it just works perfectly. The story is pretty dumb, but it keeps things going I guess. There is an insane amount of difficulty once you get to later parts of the game, so be ready for a challenge.
Overall it's an awesome game that deserves at least a rent if you own a Wii. It's really a lot of fun, and different from most other games out there. Just beware of the difficulty and you should be fine. Definitely worth a look.
- Recommendation: Rent
Trauma Center: Second Opinion puts the tools of a surgeon into your hands via the wii-mote and nunchuck.
The controls translate fairly well in this game. The Wii-mote is used as your tool, while the nunchuck analog stick lets you select from your arsenal of equipment. You'll need a steady hand to be really good at this game. I found it hard to get anything above a C rating, even on easy. I'm not sure the criteria for getting a better grade, but it didn't effect the fun of the game at all.
The game missions are timed at five minutes each, so the pressure is on to finish your job quickly.
The story cut scenes aren't really animated, but frames in a japanese style. While I didn't mind it, it didn't really grab my interest. I think I would have preferred an actual animated style of story. It has a sort of branching storyline. It's easy to replay missions and toggle difficulty levels without having to leave the storyline screen.
This was a decent game with unique controls well suited for the Wii console.

- A great edutainment model worthy of refinement and extension
- As an educator I am routinely challenged to present the vocational world in a way that is accesible and interesting. Many if not most professionals do not do this particularly well. Getting kids TO college is a far cry from helping them decide what they should do once they get there. Games such as this could help.
I think Nintendo should develop an entire line of vocational samples and package them in one or a few games. I would especially like to see:
1) engineer, designer, architect, mechanic, computer technician, security professional, technical support rep, computer programmer, technical analyst
2) parent, manager, educator, coach, trainer, institional psychologist , social worker, HR manager, politician, organizational executive or leader
3) disaster relief worker, paramedic, fire fighter, police officer, explorer, soldier
4) financial professional, accountant, banker, investor, actuary, collection specialist
5) chef, waiter, fast food service worker
6) contractor, carpenter, electrician, plumber
7) driver, pilot, skipper, in-transit attendant, travel agent
8) inside sales, telemarketing, car sales, store clerk, cashier, insurance sales
9) research scientist, theoretician, politician, lawyer, legal and medical claims technician, insurance adjuster, detective, investigator, systems analyst
10) library tech , semi-skilled researcher , administrative assistant , secretarial work , filing , billing , telephonic customer support
11) (and of course health care) doctor , pathologist , nurse , OT , PT , psychotherapist , x-ray tech , lab technician , hospital administrator , health care insurance specialist
Any jobs that have a fairly high representation in the global job market or represent fields with especially high romanticization, disatisfaction or turnover seem like good choices.
I see MANY kids leave high school with the ambition and talent to go to med school, but without the correct disposition!. It's just PROFOUNDLY disturbing to see them again 4-6 years later as disillusioned college graduates in fast food, retail sales or office administration because they decided too late that medicine was not the career for them--and they either had no plan B, or placed no emphasis on a backup career. There are geniuses out there who could be making a substantial contribution to society, but who turned from medicine in their junior and senior years of college simply because they couldn't stand the sight of blood.
Programs like this one (when well designed and integrating substantial field expertise) have the potential to save parents, nations and most importantly young people so much heartache and money lost stalwartly pursuing fruitless and romantic ambitions instead of experiencing the satisfaction of realizing practical (and achievable) goals.
- Always wanted to be a Surgeon... without going to Med school.
- This game is very fun but also very challenging. Any setting after easy is pretty tough to people other than hardcore gamers. I would recommend this game for anyone who wants to practice their hand-eye coordination with their hand-motor skills under pressure. (i.e. shakey hands) Only one player though.
- This is one of the best games I have played in a long time. I am a medical worker and it is close to home ... even with the cheesy settings and dialogue. It tests your skills and your memory and is just a blast! I recommend it to everyone!
- Operation with a plot-line
- This game is pretty much the board game "Operation" for Nintendo Wii with Japanese artwork and a strange plot line. Its decent and has some entertainment value.
